The NBA playoffs start Saturday April 16 three days after the end of the regular season. All first games of the 8 first round matchups will be played either April 16 or 17.

The NBA finals start Thursday June 2.

Sixteen of the 30 league teams make the playoffs, eight teams with the best record regardless of division from each of the two conferences. This produces 8 first round matchups. There are no first round byes or wildcard teams.

The Playoffs consist of 4 rounds.
Each matchup in all rounds is a best 4 out of 7 series (Home, Home, Away, Away, Home, Away, Home).

The NBA's best of 7 format for each round is much different than the NCAA's one-and-done format, so this tournament will end sometime in June.
